Essentials of Construction Planning and Scheduling

I wrote this book to put down on paper all the knowledge and experience that I had gleaned from over 40 years working in the construction industry to be able to pass my varied experiences, on to others. Published by ICE Publishing, the publishing division of The Institution of Civil Engineers, the book takes the reader through the steps of planning a project from tender to completion.

The book covers tender planning, contract and delivery programmes, supplementing the programme with fully detailed logistics planning. It also explains with detailed examples hook time analysis, hoist analysis, earthworks planning and how to plan mechanical and electrical works.

The programme management required with procuring sub-contractors and the site team’s development of medium and short-term programmes to manage on-site delivery.

How to collect progress information and monitor and report progress and forecast the impact of progress to date on the remaining works. Progress reporting and the use of dashboards to monitor trends to assist outcome predictions.

Finally, the book looks at change management and delay and disruption analysis both for traditional contract forms and also for the NEC suite of contracts.
